Well...

what's up?
i'm back to being an artisan of hip-hop.....
today.....
i'm listening to Drake.....
never listened to him before......
but people have said he's tight.....
[which makes me skeptical]
but i'm skeptical because........
usually when people hype up some people, their skill sometimes can seem overrated
like, they aren't as great as people make em out to be.....
but from what i hear, he's good
i like the music so far.....
i just downloaded So Far Gone.....like 10 minutes ago.....
and he seems good
but i'm listening still, so i have to let it grow on me...
but he's good so far.

but his quote on the Complex blog about naming the mixtape made me want to see what he was about.....cuz I get tired of hearing drugs this, shoot that, suck this, fuck that.....how rappers view women and shit......the reasons why i stopped liking rap, and just stuck to my hip-hop listenin', Chi-town artists like Lupe, Cool Kids, Common, Mr. West.....and so on.....

but he said this:
"The whole tape extends from one of my closest friends Oliver—One night we were having a discussion about women and the way we were talking about them, it was so brazen and so disrespectful. He texted me right after we got off the phone and he was like, “Are we becoming the men that our mothers divorced?” That’s really where the cover comes from, too. It’ just this kid in pursuit of love and money. We’re good guys, I’m friends with some real good people and for him to even text me after we got off the phone it just showed we have a conscience. But sometimes you just get so far gone, you get wrapped up in this shit. The title has a lot of meanings—as the way we carry ourselves, the way we dress, the way people view us, not to sound cocky, it’s just that feeling that we’re just distanced in a good way. You’re just elevating past the bullshit and past all the shit that you used to be a part of and you’re not that proud of, you’re just so far gone."

so yeah.

Wow, this post has me thinking a lot. I've heard of Drake but never really listened to his music, though now I will consider doing so. And that quote from Complex Mag is so real, sincerely and direct....LOVE the use of "common sense" :O).

Also you stated:
"but his quote on the Complex blog about naming the mixtape made me want to see what he was about.....cuz I get tired of hearing drugs this, shoot that, suck this, fuck that.....how rappers view women and shit......the reasons why i stopped liking rap, and just stuck to my hip-hop listenin', Chi-town artists like Lupe, Cool Kids, Common, Mr. West.....and so on....." ~ T.J

I too had stopped listening to the "typical cliche" sounds of the world so to speak, good thing there are STILL good artist around making REAL music that speaks to the soul and not the "flesh".

Nice post. I've also added you as a link on Behind The Inspiration.
